The Early Years
Marion was born in Derby, Connecticut, an area rich in history – both local and national. At the age of two she moved with her parents across the Housatonic River to Shelton. Although she lived in Shelton, Marion was lucky enough to attend St. Michael’s Catholic Grammar School in Derby and graduated as president of her class in 1962. She went on to graduate with honors from Shelton High School in 1966.
Marion began writing poetry and short stories while she was in grammar school. During her high school years Marion was active in the Creative Writing Club and wrote many articles for the high school newspaper, The High Echo.
Even before she began her formal schooling Marion’s parents instilled in her their own love of reading and story-telling. Having no siblings, Marion found an entire world of friends and adventure through books. As a child her bedroom was lined with books, some of which she still owns.
Getting Serious About Writing
Since early childhood Marion had yearned to write a novel; that dream was brought to fruition in 2005 when she self-published her debut Novel, 201 ATWATER, the first in a series of books that reflects the history and occupants of seemingly common places. Her second novel, HONEYSUCKLE HILL, was self-published in 2007. Three years later, in 2010, OAK CLIFF was released. All three books have met with high praise from readers and reviewers alike. She refers to these as ‘the Merline Madagascar series’.
In 2012 STAIRWAY TO MY HEART was published. This book launched the highly successful series called The Bridgewater Chronicles. Book 2 – THIS JADED HEART – was released in April 2014; Book 3 – TEDDY BLUE – was released in 2015 as was BRIDGEWATER HOLIDAYS. The final book in the series – THE BRIDGEWATER LEGACY – was published in late 2016.
VALLEY MEMORIES: A Nostalgic Look At Growing Up in the Lower Naugatuck Valley – a memoir based on her newscolumn – was published in 2014 as well.
For over three years, Marion was a columnist for The Valley Times (Derby, CT) where she shared reminiscences of her childhood and teen years in the column Valley Memories. She was flattered when several other would-be writers attempted to copy her ideas and writing with columns of their own.
Marion has ideas for many more stories. To find out which one she’ll write next, subscribe to her newsletter.
As a Nutmegger, Marion grew up in the Housatonic Valley (Shelton and Derby) and lived in various other parts of Connecticut. She and her husband currently reside in Central Florida with their cats: Taffy and Macho Kitty who provide critical input as Marion works at her computer.
Marion is a member of the Emerald Coast Writers Group. Additionally, she has been an invited speaker at several middle schools where she spoke about her writing and participated in Literacy Week events.
Marion would love to hear from readers and friends.
