Marion was born in Derby, Connecticut, an area rich in history – both local and national. At the age of two she moved with her parents across the Housatonic River to Shelton. Although she lived in Shelton, Marion was lucky enough to attend St. Michael’s Catholic Grammar School in Derby and graduated as president of her class. She went on to graduate with honors from Shelton High School.
Marion began writing poetry and short stories while she was in grammar school. During her high school years Marion was active in the Creative Writing Club and wrote many articles for the high school newspaper, The High Echo.
Even before she began her formal schooling, Marion’s parents instilled in her their own love of reading and storytelling. Having no siblings, Marion found an entire world of friends and adventure through books. As a child her bedroom was lined with books, some of which she still owns.
Getting Serious About Writing
Since early childhood Marion had yearned to write a novel; that dream was brought to fruition in 2005 when she self-published her debut novel, the first in a series of books that reflects the history and occupants of seemingly common places. Her second novel was self-published in 2007 and was followed three years later with the release of her third story. All three books have met with high praise from readers and reviewers alike. She refers to these as ‘the Merline Madagascar series’. In 2019, Ms. Marchetto re-released her first book with updated content (Hidden Secrets of 201 Atwater). Honeysuckle Hill (Book #2) and Oak Cliff (Book #3) are in the process of being updated and are scheduled for re-release in early 2020.
In 2012 Stairway To My Heart was published. This book launched the highly successful series called The Bridgewater Chronicles. Book 2 – This Jaded Heart – was released in 2014; Book 3 – Teddy Blue – was released in 2015. These were followed by Bridgewater Holidays in 2015 and The Bridgewater Legacy in 2016.
VALLEY MEMORIES: A Nostalgic Look At Growing Up in the Lower Naugatuck Valley– a memoir based on her one time news column – was published in 2014 as well.
2015 added several short stories based on The Bridgewater Chronicles.
Coming Home To Love (Second Chance At Love series) – is expected to be released in the 3rd quarter of 2019.
Marion has plans for several more stories and may find herself involved in several mysteries.
For over three years, Marion was a columnist for The Valley Times (Derby, CT) where she shared reminiscences of her childhood and teen years in the column Valley Memories. She was flattered when several other would-be writers attempted to copy her ideas and writing with columns of their own.
As a Connectican, Marion grew up in the Housatonic Valley (Shelton and Derby) and lived invarious other parts of Connecticut. She and her husband currently reside in Central Florida. They share their home with their cats: Taffy (primary editor), and Macho Kitty (assistant editor), who provide critical input as Marion works at her computer.
Marion is a member of the Florida Writers Association and the Ocala Writers Circle. She is an invited speaker with local organizations and currently mentors several promising writers.
Marion would love to hear from readers and friends.
