Changing Things Up – Life Changes

As I come into the final stretch of my life I find that there isn’t enough time to do all the things I still want to do. With my 70th birthday literally around the corner, I need to sit back and re-evaluate my priorities. The time for changing things is coming: my health is changing as I age and I find, as is so often the case, that the remainder of my life should be ‘me’ time. To that end here are my priorities:

  • Spend more quality time with my husband
  • Concentrate on health – mine and my husband’s
  • Enjoy my garden and my cats even more
  • Continue to write stories as inspiration moves me
  • Read more of the books that I want to read and not that I’m obligated to read
  • Try to read all of the books I already own and not buy any more (wish me luck with this one!)

As of today, I will no longer accept books for review. That said, I will continue to write reviews of books that I do read if only for the sake of finding closure with the stories. I am removing deadlines from my life. Sometimes I receive as many as twenty requests for book reviews in a week and I find that I spend more time than I want to deciding if a book is something I want to read. If I decline the offer then I need to write to the author and gracefully tell them no. Writing a review isn’t always fun (especially if I didn’t like the book) as I don’t want to discourage authors from continuing to write.

Both my husband and I have several health problems related to aging (life changes) and sadly medical visits are becoming more frequent, thus cutting into time I would use to read and review books. And while we each have other interests we both enjoy movies on our Fire TV. At this age spending time together is precious to me and I value that above all else.

I will continue to post things here on this blog (book reviews, my thoughts, items of general interest). I hope you’ll continue to check in here or on my Facebook page . Barring any health problems, I will also continue to do my monthly Facebook video events (You Should Be Reading) – the next one should be on Tuesday May 22nd (date may change – watch my Facebook page for the event).

As always, I am grateful for your support, encouragement, and comments. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
